Prof Manjit Matharu
Prof Manjit Matharu is a Professor of Neurology at University College London (UCL) Queen Square Institute of Neurology and Honorary Consultant Neurologist at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen square, London, UK. He is the Clinical and Academic Lead of the Headache and Facial Pain Group at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology.
Prof Matharu trained at The University of Manchester and completed his general medical training in London leading up to obtaining the MRCP in 1998. He subsequently obtained a PhD at The UCL Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London. He completed his residency in Neurology at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, The Royal London Hospital and Homerton Hospital in London in 2007 before taking up his current post
Prof Matharu is a member of the Headache and Pain subcommittee of the Association of British Neurologists. He was a member of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guideline development group (GDG) for Headache Disorders.
Susie Lagrata
Susie Lagrata completed her bachelor’s degree in Adult Nursing at Wesleyan University, Philippines in 1996 and moved to the United Kingdom in 1999 where she currently works as an Advanced Headache Nurse Practitioner at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, University College London Hospitals (UCLH) NHS Foundation Trust. She has undergone numerous post-graduate courses including the Master of Headache Disorders at the University of Copenhagen in 2018. She is also a registered non-medical prescriber.
She was awarded the Top-Quality Patient Care Award in 2016 and Winner of the 2022 Royal College of Nursing Awards in view of the pioneering nurse-led services she established in the UK. She was a topic specific member in the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence or NICE guidelines for headache review in 2015 (CG 150 review). She is also a current member of the Education Committee of the International Headache Society.
Susie has presented at national and international meetings and has authored and co-authored several scientific papers in the last fifteen years. She is a guest lecturer at the London Southbank University and sits as Member of the Board of the International Forum for Headache Nurses.
Maha Ahmed
Maha Ahmed completed her degree in Adult Nursing from Bournemouth University in 2006. She worked in an acute hyper-acute stroke ward in Portsmouth for two years before moving to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, where she has been working as a Headache Specialist Nurse since 2012. In 2011, she earned an associate degree in Neuroscience Nursing from London South Bank University. Maha has extensive skills and expertise in the procedural management of headaches, including Botox injections, Greater Occipital Nerve Blocks, and Multiple Cranial Nerve Blocks. She also played a key role in establishing the nurse-led Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide (CGRP) clinics in Queen Square. Maha has delivered talks and lectures at local and national headache symposiums, including the Centre for Nurse and Midwife Research (CNMR) Festival of Excellence research conference. Additionally, she has co-authored several articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
Ajay Boodhoo
Ajay Boodhoo completed his Adult Nursing at Kingston University in 2002 and he currently works as a Neurology Nurse Consultant at Croydon University Hospital. He has completed numerous post-graduate courses in neurology advanced practice, including a Master’s degree in rehabilitation from Kingston University in 2015. He is also a registered non-medical prescriber.
Mr Boodhoo has authored and co-authored several scientific papers in the last ten years and presented various posters at local and national forums. He has also participated in various service redesign initiatives, such as the pan-London hub-and-spoke model for thrombolysis units, helped establish and deliver the Hyper Acute Neurology Team (HANT) service at Croydon University Hospital, and contributed to the design and implementation of the local trust’s clinical IT system, including training and rollout for the nursing staff. He has held various senior roles in nursing, including Advanced Stroke Nurse Practitioner, Matron for the Stroke Unit/Medicine, and Senior Nurse on Call for the trust. He currently serves as the team lead for the neurology nurses specializing in epilepsy, multiple sclerosis (MS), and Parkinson’s disease (PD) at Croydon University Hospital.
Claire Fisher
Claire Fisher works as a Senior Nurse Specialist for Headache at University Hospitals Sussex
Ms Fisher has been a Headache Specialist Nurse since 2018. During that time, Ms Fisher has developed headache nursing services at the University Hospitals Sussex and University Hospitals Birmingham. Ms Fisher has introduced novel therapies for headache management in both centres and developed both local and national pathways. Ms Fisher is the lead author for the new Sussex Health Care Migraine Prophylactic Treatment Pathway for primary and secondary care and was involved in establishing the National Neurosciences Advisory Group’s optimal clinical pathway for adults with headache and facial pain.
Ms Fisher’s vision is to give patients tailored treatment options, which best suit their diagnosis, symptoms and lifestyle and plans to accomplish this by continued professional development, networking with peers, and by being on the front line of delivering patient care.
Bethany Hill
Bethany Hill is a senior headache specialist nurse in the Headache Service at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, a quaternary referral centre for patients with complex headache and facial pain disorders.
Ms Hill works in a pioneering multidisciplinary service, organising and participating in a number of nurse-led and MDT clinics, including the large injectable treatment service, fast-track cluster headache clinic and complex facial pain clinic. She takes an active role in service development, leading setting up clinics, patient and practitioner’s education and training, clinical headache research and trials.
Ms Hill is passionate about health equity and improving patients access to individualised high-quality care and has recently been involved in writing and implementing a primary care migraine pathway with the South East London Integrated Medicines Optimisation Committee. She is also an Honorary Advisor for the British Association of the Study of Headaches representing headache nurse specialists in the UK and is working to support specialist nurses nationally with mentoring, education and a competency framework.
Ms Hill has presented at national and international meetings and conferences and she has co-authored several publications of large real-world analyses on safety and effectiveness of novel treatments for primary headache conditions.
Siobhan Jones
Siobhan Jones qualified as a registered Nurse in 2004 and has worked within neurosciences and neurology. She achieved the Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) qualification in 2015. She went on to complete an MSc in the Clinical Management of Pain and Headache at the University of Edinburgh in 2019 and this developed into a publication in the British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing.
She played a lead role in setting up the first nurse led headache clinics in Greater Manchester and alongside this founded Manchester’s first migraine support group.
She has a chairing role on the Royal College of Nursing Neuroscience’s forum and is the platform from which she is spearheading the development of the first Headache Career Framework. She is also an honorary advisor for the British Association for the Study of Headache (BASH).
She is the first UK Headache Nurse Consultant and has a lead role in the Neurology Clinical Governance enabling her to maximise the headache services within Cumbria and replicate such services around the surrounding areas. Alongside this, she is currently working as a PhD Clinical Researcher (TCRI) at Newcastle University in Migraine research and has recently co-authored scientific research papers.
Anne-Marie Logan
Anne-Marie Logan is a Consultant Physiotherapist in Headache at St Georges University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and co-lead of the Headache service.
She has an MSc from UCL and is a Non-Medical Prescriber. She was completed an National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) pre-doctoral fellowship in 2018, has been a SIGN guidelines and NIHR grant reviewer and lectures on an MSc programme and nationally on headache.
Ms Logan has been involved in pathway change through NHS RightCare, the National Neurosciences Advisory Group and in system change through the South-West London Integrated Care System (ICS). She has led on implementing a multidisciplinary diagnostic and management resource for general practitioners
Camille Millante
Camille Millante is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Headache Disorders and Parkinson’s Disease at the London Northwest University Healthcare NHS Trust. Originally from the Philippines, Ms Millante graduated from the Universidad de Sta. Isabel in Naga City in 2011 with Bachelor of Science in Nursing and moved to the United Kingdom in 2016. She spent four years working in the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit before transitioning to the Neurology Department in August 2020. Ms Millante is currently pursuing a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of West London, with the goal of becoming an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
Lyka Pacana
Lyka Pacana is a dedicated nursing professional originally from the Philippines. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cebu Normal University in 2011. Following two years of experience as a medical-surgical staff nurse, she relocated to the UK in 2016. At The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, she worked in the neurosurgical ward for four years before transitioning to her current role as a Headache Nurse Specialist in 2020. Lyka has led local headache education initiatives for neurology nurses and manages nurse-led clinics, including Botox administration and cranial nerve blocks. She now leads the Episodic Headache Service at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Rachel Pickering
Ms. Rachel Pickering graduated with a BSc in Adult Nursing from the University of Manchester in 2011. She began her career as an intensive care nurse before transitioning to a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Headache in 2017. Currently, she works at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, where she cares for patients with complex headache disorders. Since 2017, she has been managing her own Botox and cranial nerve block clinics. She has lectured at symposiums including the Centre for Nurse and Midwife Research (CNMR) Festival of Excellence research conference and delivered educational talks for neurology nurses locally. She has co-authored articles in peer-reviewed journals. Recently, she completed the Professional Nurse Advocate course.
